Norfolk Island
The word himii in the Norf'k language means 'you and I' or 'both of us'. The Himii Legacy is a call to action for both you and I to make choices that will promote a bright future for Norfolk Island.
The protection of our unique environment and cultural landscape is the responsibility of everyone who spends time on our shores. As a visitor to Norfolk, we want you to immerse in the magic of our home, while being aware that your actions do accumulate over time to greatly influence our future.
Together, himii have the opportunity to create a beautiful legacy for our island and community.
There are so many things that we can do to help Norfolk Island stay pristine and culturally vibrant for many generations to come, and most of them require little effort. By adhering to environmental protocols and respecting cultural etiquette, we can help the rich landscape and traditions of Norfolk Island endure.
The series of short videos on our 'Caring for Norfolk Island' page will help you to navigate your footsteps whilst on Norfolk Island.
Renowned film maker and impact campaigner Damon Gameau features in our Himii Legacy film.
He first travelled to Norfolk in 2021 and instantly fell in love with our Norfolk people and our pristine environment, and understood the fragile nature of our unique ecosystem. As one of 30,000 visitors a year, Damon wanted to learn how he could play a positive role in the protection of our beautiful home.
