This incoming visitor film was created as part of a multimedia campaign to raise awareness around Norfolk's cultural landscape and ecosystem. A small Norfolk team were awarded a grant from Australian Marine Parks to create what became known as the Norfolk Wave Campaign, a movement that included a website, socials, a film festival, a community recycled-waste sculpture, a film about protecting our lagoonal system, and ultimately culminated into the creation of a bespoke world-first recycling centre for Norfolk Island - the Norfolk Wave Recycling Centre.
The Himii Legacy film tells the story of Norfolk Island, starting with her volcanic creation and ending with local protocols on how we can help to protect her and her people. Damon Gameau, film maker and environmental campaigner, represents one of the 30,000 visitors each year who come to Norfolk. Through his conscious connection to the landscape and the local custodians, he plays his part in ensuring that the next chapter of the Norfolk Story is one that will protect and celebrate what makes Norfolk special. It is our hope that this film inspires himii (you and I) to think about the power we have to create a beautiful world for future generations.
